I draw inspiration for the work I do from my love of colour, pattern, textures and from the stages of garment construction from start to finish.
I first started sewing as a business while my children were young – I had made my daughter an appliqué waistcoat and it grew from there to reversible and appliqued jackets for ladies, children and babies employing two out workers to do the basic seams for me when my business took off. We were going to large craft fairs once a month.
We moved to Herefordshire in 1994 to a redundant farm and converted a large shed into two dedicated craft workshops, one of them mine. I now had room in which to make and display my work and joined a craft co-operative in Hay on Wye, and exhibited at craft fairs in Hay and also at the Contemporary Craft Show in its early years.
Christmas 2014 saw a fundamental change in my work and lifestyle. I have long been interested in sustainability and the recycling of textiles, and I took early retirement from my part time work in the NHS and I now work full time transforming pre-loved clothing and textiles into a new and alternative life, sometimes funky, but always different.
My workshop is open to the public most days from 10am to 5pm.
